Music at UUFR

It is such a joy to have the opportunity to make music with you at UUFR. Our goal is to have as many folks of all ages participate actively in our music program. Neither past experience in singing nor the ability to read music is a prerequisite for being a member of any of our choral groups. You will find in every group people who love to sing and who are willing to help new singers and eager to learn from each other. We offer a wide variety of music styles at our services – find one that suits you and come join us!

The UUFR Choir consists of around 25 members and rehearses on the second, third, and fourth Thursday evenings of each month from 7:15-8:45 in the sanctuary. Our repertoire consists of traditional and contemporary SATB (Soprano-Alto-Tenor-Bass) four-part music from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The choir performs for the second and fourth Sunday morning services of each month. Anyone is welcome to join the choir!

JoyUU's rehearses at 9:00 on the third Sunday morning of each month, and sings for the service following the rehearsal. All members are welcome, including families with young singers.

Soulful Sundown Services are held every second Sunday evening from 6:00-7:00 in the Founders Hall. This service is designed to provide an alternative informal gathering for those members who feel a connection with the Folk, Pop, Rock, Soul, and Jazz music of the past and present.

Friday Folkie Forum meets every second Friday at 7:30 pm in the Clara Barton room. Come, bring your songbooks, voices, and instruments for an evening of fellowship, music and songs from the folk era and acoustic music tradition. Everyone is encouraged to come share songs and pick together in an informal and low-key atmosphere.

The Classical Music Club meets on the first Thursday evening of each month at 7:30 in the sanctuary as an opportunity for members to participate together in small ensembles.

To learn more about how to become a part of music making here at UUFR, call or email Yuri Yamamoto at piano@uufr.org. We look forward to meeting you, and to singing and playing music with you!
