Board Forums on Proposed Bylaws Amendment

The Board will host two Forums about a proposed Bylaws amendment (see below) up for a vote at our November 12 Congregational Meeting. Please plan on attending Sunday October 15 either in person after service or at 3:30pm over Zoom. Our forum previously scheduled for October 25 has been canceled, but feedback from congregants between October 15 and October 25 is welcome via email at board@uufr.org

UUFR BYLAWS

REVISED DRAFT OF SECTION RE MEMBERSHIP POWERS as of 10/10/23

Section 3. Membership Powers

All powers of the Fellowship belong to the Membership.    The Membership delegates its powers to the Board of Directors and the Lead Minister, except for those powers listed below, which are exercised directly via congregational vote:    

a. Approval of the Fellowship’s annual budget pursuant to Article III, Section 3;

b. Election of Nominating Committee Members pursuant to Article IV, Section 1;

c. Election of members of the Board of Directors pursuant to Article IV, Section 2;

d. Removal of members of the Board of Directors pursuant to Article IV, Section 5;

e. Renewal of the contract of a Short-term Lead Minister pursuant to Article VII, Section 2;

f. Calling of a Long-term Lead Minister pursuant to Article VII, Section 3;

g. Removal of a Lead Minister pursuant to Article VII, Section 7;

h. Amendment of these Bylaws pursuant to Article XI; 

i. Adoption or amendment of the Fellowship’s Mission Statement, Statement of Inclusion, or Strategic Plan;

j. Authorization of any change in the Fellowship’s location except on a temporary emergency basis;

k. Naming or re-naming of any room, building, or outdoor space;

l. Affiliation or termination of the Fellowship’s affiliation with any dues-paying membership organization;

m. Approval of any contract over three years in term, and of any contract, loan, or capital campaign worth more than 35% of the Fellowship’s annual revenue;

n. Approval of the acquisition or sale of real property; 

o. Approval of any motion placed on the agenda of a congregational meeting by the Board of Directors, either on the Board’s own initiative or on the initiative of a Member with the support of a majority of the Board; and

p. Dissolution, disbanding, or cessation of operations of the Fellowship.
