Current Activities of the Addressing Institutional Racism Committee of the Board (AIR)

During this fiscal year, AIR is continuing anti-racism efforts to dismantle institutional racism as well as to deepen the inclusion and belonging of black, indigenous, and people of color at UUFR. AIR committee members are contacting Board committees and ministry teams to coordinate discussion of the rubric that was used as part of AIR’s anti-racism assessment. During these sessions, our goal is to strategize with members of the committee or ministry team to develop concrete steps towards building an antiracist congregation, for instance, by providing a framework for envisioning the ongoing practices of an antiracist congregation in various aspects of congregational life. In addition, AIR contracted with Dr. Quienton Nichols of Fayetteville State University to develop a plan to attract and retain black, indigenous, and people of color to participate more fully at UUFR. He is currently holding listening sessions to assess the opinions of and identify existing barriers for black, indigenous, and people of color engagement at UUFR. If you are interested in participating in one of these listening sessions, please contact Diann Irwin at diannirwin2@gmail.com.
