Board Leadership Transition

By Sarah Ford Neorr, Board President

I am honored that my first official act as UUFR’s Board President is to thank my friend and predecessor, Michele McIntosh.  Because Michele assumed the mantle of President just six months into her own term as President-elect, she led the Board for a full year.  Michele’s desire to be a collaborative leader was always evident, as was her focus on putting the best interests of the congregation first.  During her year as President, Michelle successfully advocated for rebuilding the music program at UUFR, a critical component of our spiritual experience.   Michele facilitated adoption of the UUFR’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan and important revisions to UUFR’s Bylaws. She led effective Board retreats to adopt priority goals and managed two well-attended and well-regarded congregational meetings. Perhaps most importantly, Michele increased communication and transparency between the Board and the congregation.

In addition to the countless hours Michele devoted directly to Board business, she served as Board Liaison to the Healthy Congregations Board Committee and the 75th Anniversary Task Force, and as a voting Member of the UUFR Foundation Board.  Michele worked tirelessly to maintain high standards of organization and thoroughness and will be a tough act to follow.  I was relieved when she assured me I could consult with her as needed!    As all our past Presidents, Michele is looking forward to serving in new capacities – after we give her a chance to rest for a bit!    Michele, your deep respect and love for the UUFR community shines through.   Thank you for giving of yourself so generously.

As I reflect on this transition, I am reminded of Rev. James’ sermon about how geese take turns at the challenging task of flying at the front of the V.   As we thank Michele for her service as President, all of us on the Board are acutely grateful for the many others of you who are flying at the front of task forces, committees, potlucks, youth groups, and chalice circles.     We are a mighty flock of headstrong geese!  Over the next 18 months, I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together for our beloved community and our beloved world.

PS:  Please know that the Board and I always welcome your input.  For more information on our Board and its current Members, go to  http://www.uufr.org/leadership-and-staff/board/
