If it feels like the Search Team has disappeared, that’s because we’ve been in the middle of our pre-candidating weekends. And these are intentionally confidential, which means we can’t share when candidates are here or who they are. It may look quiet on the outside, but it’s actually been very full behind the scenes.
A few of you have asked, “What do you actually do all weekend?”
The short answer is: a lot of talking… and a fair amount of eating.
Each weekend includes a three-hour interview, a vespers service, a tour of UUFR, drives around Triangle neighborhoods, potluck meals, and experiencing a few local favorite restaurants. There’s group time, one-on-one time, serious questions, and casual conversations. All of this helps us get a sense of the whole person and how they might fit with this congregation.
And when it comes to choosing, we’re not comparing candidates to each other, we’re allowing ourselves to get to know and appreciate each one fully, and considering how each one fits with what you told us you’re hoping for through the survey and the searching circles. That’s still the heart of our discernment.
So if we seem a little busy (or extra caffeinated), that’s why. We’re doing the work, and we’re really grateful to be doing it with your trust.
