Clean Energy Advocacy

Every two years, Duke Energy is required to submit a plan to the NC Utilities Commission about their plans for power generation infrastructure, aka the Carbon Plan/Integrated Resource Plan (CPIRP). In their latest plan, Duke has dialed back the amount of renewables, prolonged coal plant lifetimes and added a significant amount of gas-fired plants. But the NC Utilities Commission must approve the plan and we have the chance to influence their decision by posting comments its docket. So far, just about 100 comments have been posted statewide. These comments do not have to be technical or lengthy. A lot of comments from regular folks will have an influence on the NCUC, so numbers are important. Here’s an example: “I oppose Duke’s latest Carbon Plan and Integrated Resource Plan. We cannot afford to keep investing in fossil fuel power generation given its climate impacts and higher cost relative to renewable energy sources.” To make a comment click here.
