Anti-Racism and Inclusion

UUFR Anti-Racism Curriculum Team: Building a More Welcoming Congregation

UUFR has a ministry team that has been charged with bringing new learning opportunities to the congregation. This team consists of Rev. Carrie McEvoy, Beth Ligouri, Diann Irwin, Jerri Meisner, Kurt Johnson, Lee Tate and Susan Conley.

UUFR’s Anti-Racism Curriculum Team’s mission is to provide learning and reflection opportunities to help accelerate dismantling white supremacy culture and to develop lifelong practices of racial healing and equity in our congregation. UUFR’s Anti-Racism Curriculum Team (ARCT) education centers BIPOC concerns and recommendations as we learn to create an inclusive and welcoming congregation where all can bring their full selves to UUFR.

The ARCT at UUFR is actively developing three key training and support initiatives to foster a more inclusive and welcoming congregation:

Mosaic Lifespan Anti-Racism Curriculum

ARCT is piloting elements of the UUA-supported Mosaic curriculum for adults at UUFR. The Mosaic Platform is rooted in our core UU values and is designed to evolve as our understanding of racism, anti-racism, and anti-oppression grows. This dynamic approach ensures our work remains relevant across all ages and cultural contexts.

Living Room Conversations: Microaggression Awareness

Two microaggression awareness and training sessions were provided to the Welcoming Committee. Participants explored what microaggressions are, how to avoid them, and how to intervene when they occur. The goal is to empower everyone to minimize unintentional harm and support others. Additional sessions will be offered to other core committees in the congregation.

Stir Fry Mindful Facilitation Certificate Program

Lee Tate and Kurt Johnson completed the Stir Fry Mindful Facilitation Certificate Program, led by Lee Mun Wah—a renowned documentary filmmaker, educator, and diversity trainer. This advanced online training develops cultural intelligence and facilitation skills from a mindful, multicultural perspective. Graduates will be equipped to support the congregation in addressing diversity and inclusion challenges.  In the future, the ARCT may seek additional volunteers to complete this comprehensive training.

Together, these initiatives reflect UUFR’s commitment to ongoing learning, dialogue, and action in the pursuit of anti-racism and inclusion.
