Support ONE Wake’s plan to build 1,000 Affordable Homes and 1000 Affordable Rental Units in Wake County

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh has belonged to ONE Wake – – a multiracial, multicultural, multifaith community organizing coalition that advocates for the common good in Wake County – – since the coalition’s founding in the fall of 2000.

ONE Wake’s current top priorities include affordable housing, public transportation, and mental health.

ONE Wake is proposing a plan to build 1000 affordable home sand 1000 affordable rental units in Wake County to help address the county’s housing affordable housing crisis.

Here’s what UUFR members and friends can do to help.

1. Sign the Homeownership to Equity Petition .

ONE Wake plans to present 10,000 signatures to candidates for elected office at its October 10 assembly.

More than 300 UUFR members and friends have already signed the petition. Let’s make it to 500!

To do more, go to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Facebook page and share the petition with friends.

Or download a copy of the petition yourself, print it out, collect names from friends, family, and neighbors, and return them to UUFR before October 10.

Or stop by a downstairs table after a worship service and pick up a clipboard and printed copies of the petition.

2. If you live in Raleigh, sign up to attend the Local Candidates Assembly on Thursday, October 10, at 7 p.m. at Watts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at 3703 Tyron Road in Raleigh.

Twenty six of the 27 candidates for city office, including the mayor and city council, are confirmed to attend.

ONE Wake’s goal is for 1000 people to attend. Candidates for elected office listen when 1,000 people show up.

ONE Wake plans to present its petition and ask candidates for their support for ONE Wake’s plan.

3. If you live in Cary, sign up to attend an information session about the $30 million affordable housing bond on the fall ballot. Sessions will be held September 24, October 1, and October 16.

4. If you live anywhere in North Carolina, sign up to attend the Statewide Candidates’ Assembly on Sunday, October 20, at 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel at 4700 Emperor Boulevard in Durham.

ONE Wake and its sister organizations will be asking candidates for governor, attorney general, and state superintendent for public instruction for their support in addressing housing, mental health, education and food access.

5. Sign up if you want to ride on a bus from UUFR to Watts Chapel and back on October 10, want to get a ride or offer a ride to and from UUFR on October 10, want to get a ride or offer a ride directly to Watts Chapel on October 10, or want to carpool to Durham on October 20.
