UUFR Has Enriched My Life, by Eleanor Goodwin
Moving to Raleigh amid the pandemic forced me to actively seek out ways of developing a sense of community and belonging. Volunteering with the League of Women Voters, I met Nancy Moxley, who told me about UUFR and invited me to attend. Which I did… and I came back.
While I’ve only been here a few short years, UUFR has enriched my life in a number of ways. Joining the choir enabled me to get back to singing, which I hadn’t done since moving here. Being involved with the Care Team has helped me see first-hand the kindness of so many UUFR members. I have even put my crocheting skills to use making afghan squares for refugee blankets, as well as hats and scarves for the homeless. Serving as a lay minister has allowed me to use some of my people skills. Teaching a memoir workshop has introduced me to a group of new and interesting people!
In the coming years I hope to find more ways to contribute to UUFR and to contribute to the community through UUFR. In the meantime, I’m thankful for all the new friends I’ve made and for the sense of belonging this congregation gives me!
