Second Street Shelter collections (previously called The Bryant Center collections) will resume on July 10th. We will be collecting food, clothing, and other necessities every Friday morning from 10:30 to Noon in the UUFR sanctuary foyer and delivering them to the Wake County Women’s Center on Bramer Drive. The WCWC is now hosting and temporarily overseeing unhoused folks who were previously staying overnight at Second Street, which is undergoing significant renovations.
Our donations will be available not only to the unhoused previously served by Second Street, but also to people served by the Wake County Women’s Center. We have thus expanded UUFR’s opportunity to help people in need in Wake County.
If you are unable to bring your donation on Fridays, you can leave your LABELED donations in the right-hand cupboard in the downstairs lobby of Founder’s Hall. The Bramer Drive facility has a large kitchen and Women’s Center staff will be cooking supper for overnight Second Street folks. That means it is critical to label items left in the downstairs cabinets as “Second Street Shelter” so we can keep our collections separate from the Helen Wright Center‘s collections.
